The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04687166 is a nut tap designed for threading through-hole nuts and similar workpieces in production and repair applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright finish, this tap measures 9 inches in overall length with a 2.5-inch thread length, giving machinists and toolmakers the reach needed for nut tapping operations. It cuts a 3/4-16 UNF thread form with a Thread Limit of H3, holding tolerance for standard unified fine-thread fits. The 4-flute geometry provides balanced cutting action and chip evacuation on ductile and ferrous materials commonly encountered in shop environments.
This nut tap is suited for manual or machine tapping in metalworking operations including job shops, maintenance facilities, and production machining. The 3/4-16 UNF thread standard is common in automotive, hydraulic fittings, and general mechanical assemblies where a fine-pitch thread is required for improved clamping force and vibration resistance. The bright (uncoated) finish makes it appropriate for use with cutting oil on steel, cast iron, and similar materials. It is sold individually and is intended for use by machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians.
Designed as a standard nut tap for 3/4-16 UNF threaded applications in metalworking and machining operations. Consult toolholder and tapping head specifications to confirm shank compatibility before use.
Nut taps are installed and operated by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, tapping stand, or machine tapping head. Always apply appropriate cutting fluid to the tap and workpiece before starting, and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the workpiece to prevent thread damage or tap breakage. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping. Follow applicable shop safety practices and manufacturer guidelines for speeds and feeds when using in a machine spindle.
