The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04674024 is an extension pipe tap designed for cutting 1/8-27 NPT internal threads in pipe fittings, manifolds, and other workpieces that require threaded pipe connections. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap handles the demands of production and maintenance threading applications. The plug chamfer provides a moderate lead-in with approximately 3 to 5 threads chamfered, making it suitable for through-hole and most blind-hole applications. With a 4-inch overall length and 0.4375-inch shank diameter, it offers added reach in confined or deep-bore work that standard-length taps cannot access. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians rely on this tap to create clean, leak-resistant NPT threads.
This tap is used wherever 1/8-27 NPT threads must be cut in metal workpieces, including pipe caps, fittings, valve bodies, and pressure ports. The extension length makes it well suited for applications where thread access is restricted by surrounding material or fixture depth. Typical materials tapped include mild steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar machinable metals. It is commonly used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and fabrication environments where NPT-threaded fittings must be added or restored.
Designed as a general-purpose 1/8-27 NPT extension pipe tap compatible with standard tap wrenches, extension tap holders, and machine tool chucks that accept a 0.4375-inch round shank with a 0.3280-inch square drive.
This tap is installed and used by machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians using a tap wrench or appropriate machine tool holder. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct NPT tap drill size before threading. Apply cutting fluid throughout the tapping process and back the tap off periodically to break chips and prevent binding. Do not force a tap that has seized — back it out carefully to avoid breakage.
