The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04663076 is a 3/4-14 NPT interrupted thread pipe tap machined from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish. Interrupted thread taps are engineered to break up chips during cutting, reducing heat buildup and improving chip evacuation in blind or through-hole tapping operations. The tap features 5 flutes and a regular hook geometry, making it well suited for threading ferrous and non-ferrous pipe fittings to NPT standards. Overall length is 3.25 inches, thread length is 1.375 inches, shank diameter is 0.9063 inches, and the square drive measures 0.6790 inches. This tap is sold individually and is used by machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians who need reliable NPT thread production in production or field repair contexts.
This tap is intended for cutting 3/4-14 NPT internal pipe threads in materials such as steel, cast iron, aluminum, and brass. The NPT thread standard is the common American taper pipe thread used throughout plumbing, HVAC piping, and industrial fluid-handling systems. The interrupted thread design makes it a preferred choice when tapping tougher materials or when chip control is a concern in deeper thread applications. It is appropriate for use in both manual tapping and machine tapping setups where spindle speed and feed are controlled.
Designed for cutting 3/4-14 NPT internal threads per the American National Standard taper pipe thread specification. Compatible with standard tap wrenches and machine tool spindles accepting a 0.9063-inch shank with a 0.6790-inch square drive.
This tap is installed by licensed machinists, pipefitters, or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench or machine tool. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the base material to reduce friction and extend tool life. When using a tap wrench, advance the tap with even forward pressure and periodically reverse to break chips. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, as a damaged tap can produce out-of-tolerance threads or break in the workpiece.
