The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04609640 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in blind holes where full thread depth close to the bottom is required. The bottoming chamfer style leaves only 1 to 2 incomplete thread leads at the tip, allowing threads to be formed as deep into a hole as possible. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap operates with a 45-degree helix angle and a fast flute style that efficiently evacuates chips upward and out of the hole during the tapping operation. The H3 thread limit and 2B class of fit ensure dimensional accuracy consistent with standard UNC fastener tolerances.
This tap is suited for threading 6-32 UNC blind holes in soft to medium-hardness materials including mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar machinable metals. With an overall length of 2 inches and a 2-flute spiral configuration, it is compatible with standard tap handles, tapping heads, and CNC machine tool holders used in production and maintenance environments. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians commonly select bottoming taps as the final pass after a plug or taper tap has started the thread in a blind hole.
Designed as a standard 6-32 UNC bottoming tap suitable for use with conventional tap handles, T-handle wrenches, and machine tapping attachments that accept taps of this shank size and overall length.
Bottoming taps should be used as the final tap in a sequence after a taper or plug tap has already formed the majority of the thread in the blind hole. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Use controlled torque to avoid tap breakage, particularly at the bottom of a blind hole where resistance increases sharply. Follow applicable shop safety practices and manufacturer guidance for speeds and feeds when used in power tapping applications.
