The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04544136 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in through-hole applications. Made from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this tap features a plug chamfer and three flutes that push chips forward ahead of the cut, keeping the flutes clear and reducing the risk of chip packing. The H3 thread limit produces a 3B class of fit, the standard tolerance for most general-purpose fastener applications. Right-hand thread direction. This tap is a staple tool for machinists, maintenance mechanics, and production floor operators working in steel, aluminum, and similar machinable materials.
Suited for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads of lead — distributes cutting load gradually, making it appropriate for through-holes where the tap can pass completely through the workpiece. The 1/2-13 UNC thread form is one of the most common coarse-thread fastener sizes in North American manufacturing and maintenance, used across structural assemblies, machinery frames, and mechanical fixtures. Thread length is 1-21/32 inches.
Designed as a standard replacement or stock tap for any application requiring a 1/2-13 UNC right-hand internal thread in through-hole configurations. Fits standard tap holders and chucks sized for 1/2-inch shank tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tapping operations. Always apply appropriate cutting fluid or tapping oil to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to the drilled hole before applying torque. Use the correct tap drill size for 1/2-13 UNC per standard tap drill charts to achieve the intended thread engagement percentage.
