The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04542247 is a spiral point tap designed to cut internal threads in through-hole applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap uses a plug chamfer to progressively engage the workpiece and push chips forward ahead of the cutting edge, reducing clogging in production and repair threading operations. It cuts a 3/8-24 UNF right-hand thread to a 3B class of fit with an H3 thread limit, making it suitable for general-purpose fastener holes where standard tolerance and reliable thread form are required. Machinists, tool and die workers, and maintenance technicians use this tap in manual or CNC tapping operations.
This tap is intended for threading through holes in ferrous and non-ferrous metals where chip evacuation is a priority. The spiral point geometry drives chips forward rather than packing them into the flute, which makes it well-suited to production environments and repetitive tapping on drill presses, tapping machines, and CNC machining centers. The 1.25 inch thread length provides adequate depth for standard 3/8-24 fastener engagements in typical workpiece thicknesses. It is appropriate for use in general manufacturing, maintenance and repair, and fabrication shops.
Designed as a standard spiral point tap for through-hole tapping of 3/8-24 UNF threads, compatible with tap holders and tapping heads accepting the corresponding shank diameter for this tap size.
This tap is installed and used by machinists and maintenance technicians. Always secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole to prevent thread galling or tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. Do not attempt to reverse a broken tap without proper extraction tooling, and always de-energize any machine before changing tooling.
