The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04489357 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting 1-1/8-12 UNF internal threads in through-holes and blind holes where chip evacuation is manageable. Built from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this tap delivers reliable cutting performance across a range of workpiece materials. It features 4 flutes, a plug chamfer for general-purpose thread starting, and a 3B class of fit for standard tolerance threading applications. With an overall length of 5.4375 inches and a thread length of 2.5625 inches, it accommodates moderate thread depth requirements. The H4 thread limit provides controlled oversize allowance to compensate for material spring-back. Machinists and maintenance technicians install this tap by hand or with a tap wrench in manual and low-speed machine tapping operations.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance threading in metalworking shops, manufacturing facilities, and field maintenance environments. It handles 1-1/8-12 UNF unified fine thread specifications, making it applicable wherever fine-pitch threaded fastener bores are required in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The plug chamfer style — typically 3 to 5 chamfered threads — makes it the standard choice for starting in pre-drilled through-holes or for the middle and finishing passes following a taper tap in blind-hole work. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional UNF fastener applications.
Designed as a standard replacement or stock tap for 1-1/8-12 UNF threading applications. Compatible with hand tap wrenches and machine tap holders sized for the tap shank. Suitable for use on equipment requiring 3B class of fit UNF threaded bores.
This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a properly sized tap wrench or machine holder. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for 1-1/8-12 UNF before tapping. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Reverse the tap periodically during hand tapping to break chips and reduce the risk of tap breakage.
