The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04466199 is a bottoming straight flute tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-holes and blind holes where full threads are required close to the bottom. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap cuts 5/8-18 UNF right-hand threads and features four flutes for efficient chip evacuation during tapping operations. With an overall length of 3.8125 inches and a thread length of 1.8125 inches, it is sized for standard machine and hand tapping setups. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals use bottoming taps to chase or create the final threads in blind-hole applications where a plug or taper tap cannot reach.
This tap is suited for threading ferrous and non-ferrous metals in general manufacturing, maintenance, repair, and overhaul work. The 5/8-18 UNF thread form is commonly found in precision assemblies, hydraulic fittings, and structural fastener applications across industrial and trade environments. The bottoming chamfer style, which typically features 1 to 2 thread chamfer lead, allows threading to the bottom of a blind hole after initial passes with a taper or plug tap. It is compatible with standard tap wrenches, T-handle holders, and machine tapping chucks that accept the appropriate shank size.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard production tap for use in any application requiring a 5/8-18 UNF bottoming tap with a straight flute geometry and H2 thread limit.
This tap is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, T-handle, or machine tapping setup. Always ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole before beginning the threading operation. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. When tapping blind holes, back the tap out periodically to clear chips and prevent breakage.
