The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04427324 is a straight flute tap designed to cut 8-32 UNC internal threads in through-holes and moderately shallow blind holes. Made from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap delivers reliable thread cutting in steel, aluminum, brass, and similar machinable materials. The plug chamfer features 3 to 5 chamfered threads, making it suitable for both through-holes and blind holes with adequate chip clearance. With a 0.75-inch thread length and a 2.125-inch overall length, it fits standard tap wrenches and machine spindle holders used in general shop and maintenance work. Licensed machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals will find this a dependable general-purpose threading solution.
This tap is used in production, MRO, and field maintenance applications where 8-32 UNC threads are required. Common scenarios include tapping clearance holes for machine screws in electrical enclosures, HVAC equipment panels, plumbing fixtures, and mechanical assemblies. The right-hand thread direction and H3 thread limit make it well matched to standard 8-32 machine screws with a 2B class of fit, which is the most common tolerance class for general fastener applications. It is sold as a single tap, suitable for both manual tap wrench use and light-duty machine tapping operations.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock tap for any application requiring 8-32 UNC, 2B class of fit internal threads cut with a right-hand, straight flute tap.
Always use a appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound matched to the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping, and align the tap perpendicular to the hole to avoid cross-threading or tap breakage. When using a tap wrench, back off a quarter turn periodically to break chips. Worn or broken taps should be removed before attempting to re-tap a hole to avoid damaging the workpiece.
