The VALUE COLLECTION KP79449 is a zinc-plated, zinc alloy wing nut with a nylon insert locking feature designed to resist loosening under vibration and dynamic loads. Threaded to the 8-32 UNC standard with a right-hand thread direction, this Grade 2 fastener provides a secure, tool-free tightening solution for light-duty mechanical assemblies, enclosures, access panels, and equipment covers. The wing span measures 1.031 inches and the wing height measures 0.5 inches, making it compact enough for confined spaces while still providing adequate grip for hand-tightening. The zinc plating delivers corrosion resistance suitable for general indoor applications. Technicians and installers across HVAC, electrical, and light mechanical trades use this style of fastener where frequent access and positive retention are both required.
This wing nut is suited for residential and commercial applications where quick-release hand-fastening is preferred over tool-driven hardware. Common install scenarios include securing access panels on air handlers, junction box covers, equipment guards, and sheet metal assemblies. The nylon insert engages the thread after hand-tightening to prevent the nut from backing off due to vibration or thermal cycling. It is sold with a minimum order quantity of 25 units per order.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or service stock wing nut for any assembly using 8-32 UNC threaded fasteners requiring a hand-operated locking nut.
Installation requires no tools — thread the nut onto a compatible 8-32 UNC male fastener by hand until the nylon insert engages and resistance increases. De-energize and lock out any electrical equipment before servicing panels or covers secured with this hardware, in accordance with NFPA 70E requirements. Do not use an impact driver or powered tool on this nut, as doing so may damage the nylon insert and compromise the locking function. Inspect the nylon insert for wear or deformation before reuse.
