The VALUE COLLECTION JY4992152 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting M6x1.00 metric coarse internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent thread quality in standard production and maintenance environments. The plug chamfer provides a balance between starting ease and threading depth, making it suitable for through-hole and moderately deep blind-hole applications. With a D5 thread limit and 6H class of fit, this tap produces threads that accept standard M6 metric fasteners within tolerance for general mechanical assembly work. Four flutes provide adequate chip clearance for most materials encountered in shop or field threading operations.
This tap is suited for use in manual tapping handles, tapping attachments, or hand-held operations where straight flute geometry is appropriate. It is commonly used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool and die trades for tapping steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar machinable materials. The right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional M6 fastener applications. With a 1-inch thread length and 2.5-inch overall length, it fits standard tap holders and T-handle wrenches used in bench and drill press setups.
Designed as a general-purpose straight flute tap for use with standard M6x1.00 metric coarse threading applications in through-hole and blind-hole configurations where a plug chamfer is appropriate.
Tap installation is typically performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, tapping stand, or drill press with tapping attachment. Always apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. Ensure the tap is started square to the hole to avoid tap breakage or off-axis threads. Back out the tap periodically to break chips when tapping in materials prone to long chip formation.
