The VALUE COLLECTION JY4991402 is a straight flute hand tap designed for cutting internal metric coarse threads in through-holes and blind-hole applications where chip evacuation is manageable. It carries an M3.5x0.6 thread profile and is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS), providing the hardness and wear resistance needed for threading steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials. The plug chamfer — 3 to 5 threads of lead — makes this tap suitable for starting in a hole and continuing through most of its depth, fitting the most common general-purpose tapping scenario. Overall length is 2 inches with a thread length of 0.6875 inches (11/16 inches). Three flutes provide cutting edges and chip relief.
This tap is used in maintenance, repair, and production environments where M3.5x0.6 metric coarse internal threads are required. Typical applications include threading pilot holes in machinery components, brackets, enclosures, and assemblies across HVAC equipment, electrical panels, pump housings, and general fabrication. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians commonly use this size when working with small fastener hardware in metric equipment. The 6H class of fit produces a standard tolerance internal thread compatible with a 6g class external thread, the default pairing for most commercial metric fastener assemblies.
Designed as a general-purpose straight flute tap for cutting M3.5x0.6 metric coarse internal threads in workpieces suitable for hand or machine tapping without coolant-through requirements.
Tapping operations should be performed by a machinist or qualified technician using a calibrated tap handle or tapping head. Always drill the correct tap drill size before threading and ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Reverse the tap periodically to break chips when working in blind holes.
