The VALUE COLLECTION JY4991253 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting M3x0.60 metric special internal threads by hand. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers reliable thread-cutting performance in a compact 1-15/16 inch overall length. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in, making it well suited for through-hole tapping where the tap can advance freely through the workpiece. With a D2 thread limit designation and three straight flutes, it produces clean, consistent threads in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians keep this tap on hand for repair work, prototype fabrication, and production threading in confined spaces.
This tap is used in applications requiring precise M3x0.60 metric special threads, including machine assembly, fixture building, and equipment repair. The 5/8 inch thread length accommodates typical M3 fastener engagement depths found in light mechanical assemblies. The straight-flute design is best suited for through-holes or short-chipping materials where chip evacuation along the flute is sufficient. It is appropriate for use in manual tapping handles and tap wrenches in shop, field, or maintenance environments.
Designed as a standard hand tap for use in manual tapping handles and tap wrenches compatible with M3-size taps. Suitable for threading through-holes in materials that produce short chips.
Hand taps should be installed in a properly sized tap wrench to maintain alignment and prevent breakage. Secure the workpiece firmly before starting the tap, and apply appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped. Advance the tap slowly, backing off periodically to break chips and prevent tap seizure. Never force a tap that meets heavy resistance, as M3 taps are small in cross-section and susceptible to breakage under torsional overload.
