The VALUE COLLECTION JY4946331 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting internal threads in a left-hand direction to a 6-32 UNC thread profile. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap offers solid wear resistance for general-purpose threading in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The bottoming chamfer style allows threads to be cut close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it the correct choice when full thread depth near the hole floor is required. Overall length is 2 inches, and the 3-flute geometry provides adequate chip clearance in through-hole and shallow blind-hole applications. Machinists, tool and die workers, and maintenance technicians use this tap for hand-threading operations on the bench or in a tap wrench.
This tap is suited for shop floor maintenance, prototype work, and production threading wherever a left-hand 6-32 UNC thread is specified. The H3 thread limit keeps the pitch diameter within a controlled tolerance range appropriate for standard Class 2B fit assemblies. The bottoming chamfer makes this tap the third tap in a conventional tapping sequence after a taper and a plug tap have been run, or it can be used alone when starting the thread from the opposite side of the workpiece is feasible. It is commonly used on small fastener applications in metal fabrication, electronics enclosures, and mechanical assemblies requiring reverse-threaded fasteners.
Designed as a standard replacement or stock hand tap for any application requiring a 6-32 UNC left-hand internal thread with a Class 2B fit and H3 thread limit.
This tap is intended for hand tapping using a tap wrench and should be used with an appropriate cutting fluid to reduce friction and extend tool life. Secure the workpiece firmly before starting and align the tap perpendicular to the drilled hole to avoid tap breakage. Follow standard shop safety practices and back the tap off periodically to break chips. Dispose of worn or chipped taps promptly, as a broken tap lodged in a workpiece is difficult to remove.
