The VALUE COLLECTION JY4870119 is a 1-1/4-14 UNS straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this tap delivers reliable performance in manual tapping operations. The plug chamfer style features a moderate lead-in of approximately 3 to 5 threads, making it the standard choice for through-hole tapping where a starter tap is not required. At 4 inches overall length, the JY4870119 provides adequate reach and leverage for hand-tapping with a T-handle or tap wrench. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians in industrial and MRO environments are the primary users of this tool.
This tap is suited for producing Class 3B internal threads conforming to the Unified National Special (UNS) thread standard at 1-1/4-14. The 14 threads-per-inch pitch targets applications where a coarser thread is needed on larger-diameter fasteners, including hydraulic fittings, mechanical assemblies, and heavy equipment components. The 4-flute straight-flute geometry suits most through-hole and blind-hole applications in softer to medium-hardness materials. Thread limit H4 indicates the tap is ground to produce threads at the upper tolerance range, providing adequate clearance for plated or coated fastener engagement.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use hand tap for applications requiring 1-1/4-14 UNS Class 3B internal threads. Compatible with standard square-shank T-handle tap wrenches and tap guides sized for large-diameter taps.
Hand taps should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with threading operations. Secure the workpiece firmly before beginning; use a tap guide or drill press alignment fixture to keep the tap perpendicular to the work surface. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material throughout the tapping operation to reduce heat and extend tool life. Reverse the tap periodically to break chips and prevent tap binding or breakage in deep holes.
