The VALUE COLLECTION IDP416-250-3.500-F09 is a precision dowel pin used to locate, align, and retain mating components in machined assemblies. It is manufactured from 416 stainless steel and finished with a passivated coating per ASTM A380-88, which removes free iron from the surface and improves corrosion resistance without altering dimensions. The pin measures 0.25 inches in diameter with a diameter tolerance of 0.0000 to 0.0002 inches over nominal, and has an overall length of 3.5 inches. Both ends are beveled for guided entry into bored or reamed holes. Hardness is 36 to 42 HRC. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance mechanics install this type of pin in jigs, fixtures, dies, and precision mechanical assemblies.
This dowel pin is suited for applications requiring close-tolerance alignment in environments where mild corrosion resistance is a factor, such as food processing equipment, fluid handling assemblies, pumps, and general industrial machinery. The passivated 416 stainless construction makes it appropriate where carbon steel pins would be unacceptable due to oxidation or contamination concerns. It is sold individually and typically installed in pairs or multiples to provide repeatable part location across assemblies. Minimum order quantity is 2 units.
Designed for use in precision-bored or reamed holes requiring a 0.25-inch nominal diameter dowel pin. Suitable as an OEM-style replacement or new installation in jigs, fixtures, dies, and mechanical assemblies where 416 stainless passivated dowel pins are specified.
Dowel pins of this tolerance class are pressed or driven into reamed holes using a pin press or arbor press — do not strike directly with a hammer, as this can damage the beveled end and compromise alignment accuracy. Verify hole diameter and depth before installation; the mating hole should be reamed to the appropriate tolerance class for the intended fit. Secure and lock out any machine or assembly before removing or installing locating pins in production tooling.
