The VALUE COLLECTION ICP65145A is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBMT style, designed for precision metal-turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Coated with titanium nitride (TiN), this insert carries an ANSI designation of VBMT331 and an ISO equivalent of VBMT160404. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive side clearance and a 5-degree relief angle, making it well suited for light to medium finishing cuts. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches, insert thickness is 0.1875 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). Holding method is via screw, and the material grade is C5. These inserts are sold individually but carry a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.
This insert is intended for use in turning applications on steels and stainless steels, corresponding to ISO workpiece material codes M and P. It is commonly installed in precision machining environments including job shops, production turning cells, and maintenance machine shops. The ANSI size code 331 and ISO size code 160404 allow straightforward cross-referencing when selecting a compatible toolholder. The chip breaker designation T provides controlled chip formation during finishing and semi-finishing passes on common ferrous workpiece materials.
Designed for use in screw-clamp VBMT-style toolholders accepting a 331 ANSI size code insert with a 0.173-inch hole diameter. Verify toolholder pocket geometry, clearance code B, and tolerance code M before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct torque-limiting screwdriver or hex key for the insert clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination can cause improper seating and premature edge failure. Never run an insert that shows visible chipping, cracking, or excessive flank wear.
