The VALUE COLLECTION ICP28120L is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Conforming to ANSI code VNMG432 and ISO code VNMG220408, this insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative side clearance and a manufacturer grade of ICP22. The cutting face carries an Al2O3 (aluminum oxide) coating that improves wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The 0.5-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch thickness provide the rigidity needed for moderate to heavy turning passes. It is typically installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning operations on cast iron and non-ferrous workpiece materials, consistent with primary workpiece material codes K and N. The 35-degree included angle makes it appropriate for profiling, facing, and light to moderate roughing where tool access in tight geometries is required. The G-style chip breaker aids in chip control during continuous turning of ductile materials. Applications span both production runs and short-run precision turning where a reliable coated carbide grade is needed.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for toolholders accepting VNMG432 (ISO VNMG220408) style inserts with a negative relief angle and M tolerance class. Verify toolholder pocket geometry before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and all axes at a safe rest position. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamp screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Confirm insert seating in the pocket before resuming operation. Follow all applicable shop safety standards and machine guarding requirements during tool changes.
