The VALUE COLLECTION GH8782005 is a 2-inch interchangeable pilot counterbore designed for precision enlarging and finishing of bored holes in metal workpieces. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright, polished finish, it delivers consistent cutting performance across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 4MT Morse taper shank provides secure, self-holding engagement in compatible spindle sockets. With 5 flutes and a right-hand cutting direction, the tool produces smooth, accurate counterbore seats with efficient chip evacuation. Overall length is 8-3/8 inches, making it suitable for reaching recessed features in medium-depth workpieces. The interchangeable pilot system allows different pilot diameters to be swapped to match varying hole sizes without replacing the entire tool body.
This counterbore is used in machine shop and maintenance environments wherever a clean, flat-bottomed recess is required around a drilled hole — typically to seat cap screws, socket head bolts, or similar fastener heads flush or below the workpiece surface. It is installed in drill presses, milling machines, or lathes equipped with a 4MT taper spindle. A 1/2-inch pilot shank diameter is required to guide the tool concentrically during the cut. Applications span general fabrication, toolroom work, and field maintenance operations performed by machinists and skilled trades personnel.
Designed for use in drill presses, milling machines, and lathes fitted with a Number 4 Morse taper (4MT) spindle socket and requiring a 1/2-inch interchangeable pilot shank diameter.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or skilled tradesperson familiar with rotary cutting tools and machine tool safety. Power down and lock out the machine before mounting or removing the taper shank. Clean both the tool taper and spindle socket thoroughly before seating to ensure full, concentric contact. Always use the correct pilot diameter for the pre-drilled hole and apply an appropriate cutting fluid to extend tool life and improve finish quality.
