The VALUE COLLECTION D39148 is a fully threaded hex head cap screw designed for high-strength fastening applications in industrial, mechanical, and structural assemblies. It features a 5/8-11 UNC thread and a 1-3/4 inch length under head, manufactured from Grade 8 steel with a zinc yellow dichromate finish that provides corrosion resistance and visual identification. Conforming to ASME B18.2.1, this fastener meets the dimensional and mechanical standards required for demanding bolted joints. Grade 8 steel offers higher tensile and proof load ratings compared to Grade 5 or Grade 2 fasteners, making it suitable where elevated load or vibration resistance is critical.
This cap screw is used across a wide range of trade and industrial applications including equipment mounting, machinery assembly, structural connections, and HVAC or mechanical equipment installation. The fully threaded design provides maximum thread engagement along the full length of the shank, which is particularly useful in shorter grip-length applications or when threading directly into a tapped hole. The zinc yellow dichromate finish provides mild corrosion protection suitable for indoor and light outdoor service environments.
Designed for use with standard 5/8-11 UNC hex nuts, flat washers, and lock washers conforming to inch-series fastener standards. Suitable as a direct replacement in any 5/8-11 tapped or through-hole application requiring a Grade 8 fastener per ASME B18.2.1.
Installation is typically performed by maintenance technicians, millwrights, or mechanical contractors using standard hex wrenches, combination wrenches, or impact drivers with the appropriate socket. Follow the applicable equipment manufacturer torque specifications and relevant codes such as AISC or ASME standards for structural and mechanical assemblies. Never substitute a lower-grade fastener in a joint engineered for Grade 8. Inspect threads for damage before installation and replace any fastener showing signs of deformation or corrosion.
