The VALUE COLLECTION CNFI5062-050BX is a castle lock nut designed for use in threaded fastener assemblies requiring positive retention against loosening. Manufactured from Grade 5 steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this 5/8-18 nut measures 23/32 inches high with 15/16 inches across the flats. The castle-style profile accommodates a cotter pin or safety wire, providing mechanical locking in applications where vibration or dynamic loading is a concern. The right-hand thread conforms to ANSI B18.2.2, ensuring dimensional consistency with standard inch-series hardware. This nut is commonly installed by millwrights, mechanics, and maintenance technicians in industrial and mechanical assembly work.
This castle lock nut is suited for bolted connections in mechanical systems where a secondary locking method is required. Typical applications include automotive suspension components, shaft retention, clevis pins, agricultural equipment linkages, and general industrial machinery where cotter pin lockup is the preferred retention method. The 5/8-18 fine thread pitch provides higher tensile strength engagement per thread compared to coarse thread equivalents, making it appropriate for high-load bolted joints in inch-series assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or service nut for any inch-series threaded assembly using a 5/8-18 fastener where ANSI B18.2.2 dimensional compliance is required.
Installation is performed by mechanics or maintenance technicians using a standard 15/16 inch wrench or socket. Torque the nut to the value specified by the equipment manufacturer, then advance to the nearest castle slot aligned with the cotter pin hole in the bolt or shaft. Insert a properly sized cotter pin through the slot and bolt hole and bend the pin legs to secure. Never back off the nut to align the castle slot, as this reduces clamp load. Follow applicable equipment service documentation and workplace safety procedures when working on mechanical assemblies.
