The VALUE COLLECTION BT-3816-500-SS is a 3/8-16 x 1/2 inch soft tip set screw designed for secure fastening applications where marring or damaging a shaft surface is a concern. The fastener features a hex drive socket and a brass tip that contacts the workpiece, distributing load and protecting delicate surfaces from the hardened steel point that a standard cup or cone-point set screw would otherwise leave behind. The body and threads are machined from 18-8 stainless steel, providing solid corrosion resistance in wet, outdoor, or chemically exposed environments. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians reach for this style when locking collars, pulleys, or rotating assemblies onto shafts that cannot be marred.
This set screw is suited for light industrial, HVAC equipment assembly, plumbing fixture mounting, and general mechanical maintenance work. The 3/8-16 UNC thread is a common size found in shaft collars, shaft couplings, and set-screw-style hubs across a wide range of trade and industrial equipment. The 18-8 stainless steel construction makes it appropriate for moist or corrosive environments such as pool equipment housings, outdoor condenser assemblies, and marine-adjacent installations. The soft brass tip protects polished or finished shaft surfaces during tightening and allows for repeated adjustment without surface damage.
Designed as a standard-fit replacement or service fastener for any 3/8-16 UNC tapped set screw application requiring a soft tip point and 1/2 inch thread length.
Installation is performed with a hex key or Allen wrench sized to the drive socket. Ensure the mating tapped hole is clean and free of debris before threading to avoid cross-threading the stainless steel fastener. Do not use power tools without a torque-limiting clutch, as 18-8 stainless steel is susceptible to galling under rapid or excessive torque. Follow the equipment manufacturer torque specifications for the assembly being serviced.
