The VALUE COLLECTION BT-256-250-SS is a 2-56 UNC/UNF hex-drive set screw with a soft tip point, manufactured from 18-8 stainless steel with a brass tip insert. Set screws are headless fasteners that thread fully through a tapped hole to bear against a shaft, pin, or mating surface, locking a component in position without a protruding head. The hex socket drive accepts a standard hex key for installation and removal. The brass soft tip protects delicate shaft surfaces from scoring or marring during tightening. This fastener is sized at 1/4 inch thread engagement length and carries a 2-56 thread designation, making it appropriate for fine-detail mechanical assemblies where space is constrained and surface protection is required.
This set screw is used in light-duty mechanical assemblies including knobs, collars, pulleys, and small gears mounted to shafts in instrumentation, HVAC controls, electrical equipment, and similar applications. The 2-56 thread size is common in small-format assemblies where standard coarser threads are too large. The soft brass tip makes it well suited for installations where the mating shaft must remain undamaged after multiple adjustment cycles. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and assembly professionals install this type of fastener across residential and commercial equipment repair and OEM production work.
Designed as a standard 2-56 hex-drive soft-tip set screw for use in any tapped 2-56 threaded hole requiring a non-marring brass tip point fastener.
Installation requires a properly sized hex key matched to the socket drive. The tapped receiving hole must be clean and free of debris before threading the screw. Power down or de-energize any equipment before servicing fasteners on rotating or electrically live components. Do not exceed the rated torque range for 2-56 stainless fasteners, as the small thread cross-section is susceptible to galling and thread stripping if overtightened.
