The VALUE COLLECTION BS27N0010 is a No. 10 wire-size jobber-length drill bit ground from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish. It features a 130-degree split-point angle and a slow-spiral, two-flute geometry designed to reduce walking and improve chip evacuation in softer workpiece materials. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.1935 inches in diameter, matching the drill diameter for secure chuck clamping. With an overall length of 3.625 inches and a flute length of 2.4375 inches, it fits standard 3-jaw keyless and keyed chucks. This is a general-purpose drill intended for machinists, maintenance technicians, fabricators, and tradespeople who need reliable performance on everyday hole-making tasks.
This drill bit is optimized for cutting aluminum and other non-ferrous metals, though it performs acceptably in plastics and soft composites. The slow-spiral flute promotes aggressive chip clearance in gummy, low-hardness materials that can pack around faster-spiral geometries. The web-thinned, tapered-web point reduces thrust force at breakthrough, making it well-suited for hand-drill and drill-press work where feed control is manual. Typical applications include sheet metal layout work, conduit and panel fabrication, light-duty machine-shop operations, and general maintenance drilling. Coolant-through capability is not available on this bit; flood or mist coolant applied externally is acceptable for higher-volume production use.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement jobber drill for any standard chuck accepting a 0.1935-inch straight cylindrical shank, conforming to ANSI jobber-length specifications for No. 10 wire-size drill bits.
Secure the straight shank fully into the chuck jaws before tightening to prevent slippage under torque. Power down and de-energize the drill press or disconnect the hand drill from its power source before changing bits. Cutting speed and feed rate should be appropriate for the workpiece material; excessive feed pressure in hard materials can chip the cutting edges of an uncoated HSS bit. Regrinding is recommended once the point shows visible wear rather than continuing to force a dull edge.
