The VALUE COLLECTION BD-18556 is an IDC (insulation displacement contact) tap quick splice connector designed for making branch connections on 12 to 10 AWG wire without cutting the main conductor. The yellow housing indicates compatibility with the 12-to-10 AWG wire range. Each connector accommodates two wire entries and uses an insulation displacement termination method, eliminating the need to strip wire insulation before making the connection. Rated for a maximum operating temperature of 194 degrees F, these connectors are suited for use in panel wiring, equipment taps, and low-voltage branch circuits. Each package contains 25 connectors.
These tap splice connectors are used in residential and light commercial electrical work where a branch tap must be made on an existing run of 12 or 10 AWG wire. Common applications include adding branch circuits to existing wiring, splicing into motor leads, connecting sensors or low-voltage controls to power conductors, and general panel or enclosure wiring. The IDC design speeds up installation in tight spaces where stripping and twisting conductors is impractical. Electricians and HVAC technicians are the typical installers for this connector type.
Designed as a standard IDC tap splice connector suitable for use with 12 to 10 AWG copper conductors in residential and light commercial wiring applications.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed electrician or qualified HVAC technician. De-energize and lock out the circuit before making any splice connection, in compliance with NFPA 70 (NEC) lockout/tagout requirements. Insert the main conductor and tap conductor into the appropriate slots and compress the connector with lineman's pliers or a dedicated IDC tool until the cap seats fully. Do not use these connectors on aluminum conductors or on circuits exceeding the rated wire gauge range.
