The VALUE COLLECTION BD-18554 is an insulation displacement connector (IDC) tap quick splice designed for fast, tool-free wire tapping in low-voltage wiring applications. It accepts 18 to 14 AWG wire and accommodates two wire entries, allowing a branch wire to be tapped off a main conductor without cutting or stripping. The blue color coding indicates compatibility with the 18-to-14 AWG range, making polarity and gauge identification straightforward on the job. Rated for a maximum operating temperature of 221 degrees F, this connector suits installations where moderate heat exposure is expected. Electricians and low-voltage technicians use these connectors for trailer wiring, automotive accessories, and control circuit taps.
This IDC tap splice connector is suited for residential and light commercial electrical work where a quick, reliable branch connection is needed without splicing in a junction box. Typical applications include low-voltage control wiring, irrigation controller runs, landscape lighting circuits, and automotive or trailer harness taps. The connector clamps onto the insulation of both the main and branch wire simultaneously, piercing the jacket to make contact. Sold in a pack of 50, this quantity is practical for service vans or panel shops running multiple circuits in a single job.
Designed for use with 18 to 14 AWG insulated copper conductors in low-voltage tap splice applications. Verify conductor gauge falls within the 18-to-14 AWG range before installation.
De-energize the circuit before installing any splice connector. Seat the main wire in the larger channel and the branch wire in the tap channel, then close the connector cap fully using needle-nose pliers until it clicks or seats flush. Inspect the closed connector to confirm both wire jackets are fully engaged by the IDC blades. Follow applicable NEC requirements for the installation environment, particularly regarding connector use in wet or outdoor locations.
