The VALUE COLLECTION BD--18551-2 is a red IDC (insulation displacement connector) run tap quick splice connector designed for fast, tool-free wire tapping on 22 to 18 AWG conductors. It pierces the insulation on the run wire and accepts the tap wire simultaneously, creating a solid electrical connection without cutting or stripping. Each connector accommodates two wire entries and is rated for a maximum operating temperature of 194 degrees F. Electricians and low-voltage installers use these connectors when adding branch connections to existing wire runs quickly and reliably.
This connector is suited for residential and light commercial low-voltage wiring applications, including alarm systems, landscape lighting, automotive wiring, and HVAC control wiring where 22 to 18 AWG wire is standard. The IDC termination method eliminates the need for wire stripping, making it a practical choice for high-volume installations or tight-access locations where conventional splicing is impractical.
Designed for use with 22 to 18 AWG insulated conductors in run tap splice applications. Verify wire gauge compatibility before installation.
De-energize the circuit before making any splice connection. Insert the run wire and tap wire into the designated slots and compress the connector with pliers until the cap seats fully, allowing the IDC contacts to pierce the insulation. Follow applicable NEC guidelines for splicing and wire management in the installation environment. Inspect the seated connector to confirm both contacts have fully engaged before restoring power.
