The VALUE COLLECTION ARWR/SG/5 is a straight-handle tap wrench designed for threading operations in metal, plastic, and similar materials. It accepts taps ranging from 3/16 to 5/8 inches (M4 to M16 metric equivalent), covering a wide range of common threading tasks. At 11 inches overall length, the handle provides adequate leverage for controlled hand-tapping without excessive torque. This is a non-ratcheting design, meaning the handle must be turned fully in both directions to advance the tap. Machinists, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and plumbers use tools like this for field threading and repair work where a tap and die set is part of standard kit.
This tap wrench suits both shop and field use. It is appropriate for threading new holes or chasing damaged threads in residential and light commercial applications. The straight handle style gives the user direct feedback and control during the threading process, which is important when working with smaller tap sizes to avoid breakage. It works with standard hand taps and is not intended for use with power equipment.
Designed for use with standard hand taps in the 3/16 to 5/8 inch range. Metric compatibility spans M4 through M16 tap sizes. Not compatible with taps outside this range or with power-drive equipment.
Hand-tapping should be performed after drilling the correct tap-drill-size hole for the intended thread specification. Secure the workpiece before beginning threading to prevent movement. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Reverse the tap periodically to break chips and reduce the risk of tap breakage, particularly in blind holes.
