The VALUE COLLECTION 849-0062 is a double-end, 4-flute square end mill manufactured from high speed steel (HSS). It carries a 1/16 inch cutting diameter and a 3/32 inch length of cut, making it suited for light-duty milling operations where a small-diameter tool is required. The bright, uncoated finish leaves the HSS substrate exposed for general-purpose use. With a 30-degree helix angle and right-hand cutting and flute direction, the tool produces a clean shear action on a range of common workpiece materials. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals select this geometry for fine detail work, slotting, and profiling in confined areas.
This end mill is used in manual knee mills, CNC machining centers, and benchtop milling machines where small-diameter tooling is required. Its stub-length classification and straight shank support rigid setups that minimize deflection during light finishing or profiling passes. The double-end design provides a second usable cutting end, extending service life before the tool is retired. Typical applications include slotting, pocketing, and contour milling in steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials at appropriate feeds and speeds for HSS tooling.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock tool for milling operations requiring a 1/16 inch diameter, 4-flute, double-end HSS square end mill with a 3/16 inch straight shank.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the straight shank in a collet or end mill holder rated for 3/16 inch shank tooling, and torque the retention mechanism per the machine tool manufacturer specifications. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a locked-out, de-energized state before changing tooling. Do not exceed the feed and speed parameters appropriate for HSS tooling at this diameter, as small-diameter end mills are susceptible to breakage under excessive load.
