The VALUE COLLECTION 82602 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading operations in a wide range of ferrous materials. Built from High-Speed Steel-E (HSS-E), this tap delivers the added toughness and heat resistance needed when cutting threads in demanding workpiece materials. It features a 4-40 UNC thread profile, 2 flutes, and a plug chamfer that guides the tap into the hole and distributes cutting forces evenly. A steam oxide coating reduces friction and helps resist corrosion during storage and use. With a Thread Limit of H3, it is suited for standard tolerance threading applications. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance tradespeople commonly use this tap in both manual and machine tapping setups.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading in materials including stainless steel, alloy steel, cast steel, die steel, and cast iron. The spiral point design pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting flutes, making it well-suited for through-holes where chip evacuation is not restricted. At 4-40 UNC, it handles fine fastener threading common in instrumentation, electronics enclosures, small mechanical assemblies, and light-duty structural connections. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional fastener applications.

This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard tap wrench or tapping head. Always use the correct tap drill size for 4-40 UNC before starting the tap to avoid overloading the flutes. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material, particularly when working with stainless or alloy steels. Do not force the tap if resistance increases unexpectedly, as HSS-E tooling can fracture under excessive torque.
