The VALUE COLLECTION 79-0097-06 is a 12-inch American-pattern mill file with a single-cut, bastard-coarseness tooth configuration. Mill files are flat, tapered files used to smooth and finish flat or curved metal surfaces, deburr edges, and sharpen saw blades and cutting tools. The single-cut pattern — rows of parallel teeth running at one angle — produces a smoother finish than a double-cut file and is well suited for draw-filing and precision surface work. At 1-5/32 inches wide and 7/32 inches thick, this file provides a stable bearing surface for controlled material removal. It is fitted with a tang for use with a standard file handle.
This mill file is appropriate for metalworking, maintenance, and fabrication tasks in trade and industrial settings. Machinists, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and general maintenance professionals reach for mill files when dressing valve seats, cleaning burrs from cut pipe ends, sharpening lawn equipment blades, or smoothing weld seams. The bastard cut is the most versatile coarseness grade, removing material faster than a second-cut or smooth file while still leaving a workable finish. The 12-inch length suits bench work and hand-held filing on larger workpieces.
Designed as a general-purpose American-pattern mill file compatible with standard file handles accepting a tang-style fit. Suitable for use on ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, and similar materials in typical trade and maintenance applications.
Mill files are hand tools and do not require power or wiring; however, always fit the tang with a properly sized handle before use to prevent hand injury. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment including eye protection and gloves when filing metal. File in one direction with controlled strokes and lift on the return stroke to preserve tooth sharpness. Keep files dry and store them so teeth do not contact other metal tools.
