The VALUE COLLECTION 79-0094-12 is a 10-inch American-pattern mill file with a single-cut, bastard-cut tooth pattern. Mill files are used to draw-file flat and curved surfaces, deburr metal edges, and sharpen saw blades and cutting tools. The file body measures 31/32 inches wide and 11/64 inches thick, with a tang end for use with a standard file handle. This is a hand tool used by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and general tradespeople who work with ferrous and non-ferrous metals in the shop or field.
This mill file is suited for general metalworking tasks including smoothing weld beads, dressing mating surfaces, and fine-tuning metal fits. The single-cut tooth pattern removes material in one direction, producing a smoother finish than double-cut files of equivalent coarseness. The bastard cut is a mid-range coarseness, making it appropriate for stock removal on soft metals and for finishing passes on harder materials. It is a standard choice for bench work, maintenance shops, and field service kits.
Designed as a standard American-pattern mill file compatible with any file handle sized for a 10-inch tang-end file.
Install a file handle onto the tang before use to prevent hand injury from the exposed tang point. Always push the file on the cutting stroke and lift on the return stroke to preserve tooth life. Keep the file clean of metal filings using a file card or brush. Files are hardened and brittle — do not use them as pry bars or striking tools.
