The VALUE COLLECTION 724-6490 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiN coating, it delivers added hardness and heat resistance at the cutting edge. The 5/8-inch diameter cutter features 3 flutes with a high helix, right-hand cut, and right-hand flute direction, producing efficient chip evacuation during roughing passes. Center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as peripheral cuts. With a 2.5-inch length of cut and 4.625-inch overall length, this end mill suits deep-pocket and shoulder roughing operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This roughing end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines where bulk stock removal is the priority before finish passes. The M42 cobalt substrate handles elevated cutting temperatures better than standard M2 HSS, making it suitable for harder workpiece materials including alloy steels and stainless grades. The TiN coating extends tool life by reducing friction and built-up edge. Typical users include machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance shops running production or prototype work.
Designed as a standard single-end roughing end mill with a 5/8-inch straight shank, compatible with collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling machine spindles accepting 5/8-inch tooling.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder and torque the retention nut or set screw according to the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating for chips or wear before each use. Roughing end mills are intended for stock removal passes and should be followed by a finish end mill to achieve final dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements.
