The VALUE COLLECTION 724-5056 is a cobalt roughing finishing end mill designed for aggressive material removal and finish passes in a single tool. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating to extend tool life and reduce friction at the cutting edge. The 5/16 inch diameter, four-flute configuration with a 30-degree helix angle delivers efficient chip evacuation on a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The square end profile suits flat-bottom slots and shoulder cuts. Right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting rotation are standard. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in milling applications.
This end mill is suited for use in manual knee mills, CNC vertical machining centers, and bridgeport-style machines where a single tool must handle both roughing and light finishing operations. The 3/8 inch shank with Weldon flat provides positive drive and minimizes slippage in side-lock holders. The 1-1/8 inch length of cut accommodates moderate-depth slot and peripheral milling. Single-end geometry means the tool is not reversible. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and shoulder milling in steel, stainless, and similar alloys.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or direct-use cobalt end mill for milling machines and machining centers accepting a 3/8 inch Weldon flat shank in a side-lock or set-screw style end mill holder.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's guidelines. Secure the Weldon flat shank fully into a properly sized side-lock holder, ensuring the flat registers against the set screw before tightening. Confirm spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut are within the recommended parameters for cobalt tooling before engaging the cut. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and remove the tool from service when chipping or excessive wear is observed.
