The VALUE COLLECTION 724-4212 is a cobalt roughing finishing end mill designed for aggressive material removal followed by a near-finish pass in a single tool. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance needed in harder ferrous materials. The 7/8 inch diameter cutting face features five flutes with a chipbreaker geometry that curls and breaks chips to prevent packing during deep cuts. With a 30-degree helix angle and right-hand cut direction, it maintains steady chip evacuation and smooth wall contact. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this style of end mill in vertical machining centers and manual knee mills.
This end mill suits roughing and semi-finishing operations in steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel on both manual and CNC milling machines. The Weldon flat shank provides positive drive engagement in end mill holders and side-lock tooling, reducing the risk of pullout under heavy radial loads. It is a single-end tool, meaning the cutting geometry is on one end only. Typical applications include slot milling, peripheral milling, and stepped pocket roughing where heat buildup and chip management are primary concerns.
Designed for use in standard end mill holders and side-lock toolholders accepting a 3/4 inch shank diameter with a Weldon flat drive feature. Suitable for vertical milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills with sufficient spindle horsepower for cobalt roughing operations.
A licensed machinist or toolroom professional should install and set this end mill. Secure the Weldon flat against the set screw in the side-lock holder before torquing to prevent axial pullout under cutting load. Confirm spindle runout with a dial indicator before first use, as excessive runout will accelerate uneven flute wear on a multi-flute tool. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or adjusting tooling per standard shop safety practice.
