The VALUE COLLECTION 724-2146 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this end mill handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials at elevated cutting temperatures where standard HSS tooling degrades. It features a 5/8 inch diameter with a 4-flute, right-hand cutting and right-hand flute configuration. The bright uncoated finish suits applications where additional coating is unnecessary or where post-grinding is expected. With a 1.625 inch length of cut and a 3-3/4 inch overall length, it fits standard milling machine and CNC setups requiring a compact reach end mill.
This roughing end mill is suited for production and job-shop environments where stock removal rate takes priority over surface finish. The 4-flute, non-centercutting design is intended for peripheral and side milling passes rather than plunge cutting. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this style of rougher to reduce cycle time on steel, alloy steel, and similar materials before a finish pass with a conventional end mill. The 5/8 inch shank diameter matches the 5/8 inch mill diameter, allowing direct chucking in standard collet holders or end mill holders without a reduction sleeve.
Designed as a standard-shank roughing end mill compatible with 5/8 inch collet holders, end mill holders, and milling chucks on knee mills, vertical machining centers, and CNC mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following safe tooling practices. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended engagement depth and torque the collet or set screw to the holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before engaging the workpiece, as excessive runout accelerates wear and reduces cut quality on roughing passes.
