The VALUE COLLECTION 724-0161 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers the heat and wear resistance needed for cutting harder steels and tough alloys. The 4-flute, right-hand cutting geometry with a bright uncoated finish removes large volumes of material per pass while maintaining edge integrity. With a 0.625 inch cutting diameter and a 3.125 inch length of cut, this tool suits deep-pocket and full-slot roughing work on manual mills and CNC machining centers. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals reach for cobalt roughers when production demands reliable performance on difficult materials.
This end mill is suited for roughing passes in ferrous metals, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys where carbide tooling is not required. The 0.625 inch shank diameter allows direct chuck or collet mounting in standard ER and side-lock holders. With a 5.25 inch overall length, it provides clearance for moderate-depth setups without excessive tool overhang. The centercutting geometry supports plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral milling, giving the operator flexibility in toolpath strategy.
Designed as a standard single-end roughing end mill with a 0.625 inch shank diameter, compatible with ER collet chucks, side-lock holders, and milling machine spindles that accept 5/8 inch tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the full recommended insertion depth in the holder and torque set screws or collet nuts per the holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, and confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and depth of cut.
