The VALUE COLLECTION 724-0059 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention when cutting tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch) cutting diameter pairs with a 1-3/8 inch (1.3750 inch) length of cut and a 3/8 inch shank, making it suited for moderate-depth roughing passes. The bright, uncoated finish keeps the surface free of added coating variables, which some machinists prefer for cobalt tooling. This end mill is centercutting, allowing plunge entry into workpieces without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
This roughing end mill is used in vertical and horizontal milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills. It is appropriate for roughing operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar hard materials where high heat generation demands cobalt-grade tooling over standard HSS. The single-end configuration and right-hand cutting and flute direction make it a standard fit for conventional milling setups. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians performing metal removal in job shop or production environments are the typical users.
Designed as a standard-shank roughing end mill for use in milling machines and machining centers that accept a 3/8 inch shank. Fits standard ER, R8, and similar collet systems sized for 3/8 inch tooling.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and the spindle fully stopped. Secure the 3/8 inch shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder torqued to the machine manufacturer's specification using the appropriate spanner or wrench. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use. Follow applicable shop safety practices and machine-specific operating procedures when setting speeds and feeds for cobalt tooling.
