The VALUE COLLECTION 723-6739 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a TiN (titanium nitride) coating that extends tool life and reduces friction at the cutting edge. The mill features a 0.5-inch diameter with 4 flutes and a right-hand cutting and flute direction, making it suited for standard CNC and manual milling setups. With a 3-inch length of cut and 5-inch overall length, it handles deeper pocketing and slotting passes where chip clearance is critical. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically reach for this style of end mill when roughing ferrous and non-ferrous stock before a finishing pass.
This roughing end mill is appropriate for shop environments running vertical mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills. It is commonly used in general-purpose roughing of steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials where high material removal rates are the priority. The M42 cobalt substrate tolerates elevated cutting temperatures better than standard M2 HSS, making it a practical choice for harder or abrasive workpieces. The non-centercutting geometry means it is intended for peripheral and slot cuts where plunge entry is not required without pre-drilling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill compatible with standard 1/2-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and milling adapters used on vertical and CNC milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's tooling guidelines. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing the end mill from the holder. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the set screw or collet is torqued per the holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges before use and confirm runout is within acceptable tolerance before beginning a cut.
