The VALUE COLLECTION 723-4496 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this tool handles tough ferrous materials and maintains edge integrity at elevated cutting temperatures. The 5/8-inch diameter cutter features 3 flutes with a high helix, right-hand cutting and flute direction, and a bright uncoated finish. With a length of cut of 3.125 inches and an overall length of 5.25 inches, it is suited for deeper pocketing and slotting passes where chip evacuation and rigidity are both critical. Centercutting geometry allows plunge entry.
This roughing end mill is used in manual and CNC vertical mills, knee mills, and machining centers for roughing passes on steel, stainless steel, and other hard alloys. The 3-flute configuration balances chip load and chip clearance, making it well-suited for applications where full-width slotting or heavy side milling is required. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically reach for cobalt roughers when indexable tooling is impractical or when tight corners and small spindle sizes demand a solid tool. The 5/8-inch shank matches the cutter diameter for a direct, concentric fit in standard collet chucks and end mill holders.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide replacement-class roughing end mill for standard 5/8-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and set-screw style tool holders used in vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolroom practices. Secure the shank fully into the tool holder to the recommended gauge depth before tightening, and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Power down the spindle and lock out the machine before changing tools. Follow shop-specific speeds and feeds for M42 cobalt tooling based on the workpiece material and machine capability.
