The VALUE COLLECTION 723-4451 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials where standard HSS tooling wears quickly. The 1/2 inch diameter, 3-flute configuration balances chip clearance with cutting rigidity, making it well-suited for roughing passes that require fast stock removal before finishing. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional milling setups. A high helix style promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup at the cutting edge during heavy cuts.
This end mill is used in manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills for roughing operations on steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials. The centercutting geometry allows plunge milling when the application requires it. With a 5/8 inch length of cut and 2-5/8 inch overall length, it fits standard tool holders and collet chucks accepting a 1/2 inch shank. It is appropriate for job shops, tool rooms, maintenance machining, and production environments where a reliable roughing tool is needed at a practical price point.
Designed as a standard roughing end mill for use in any mill or machining center equipped with a tool holder or collet chuck accepting a 1/2 inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with end mill setup and machine operation. Secure the shank fully in a collet chuck or end mill holder and confirm runout before beginning a cut. Ensure the machine spindle is at a full stop before changing or adjusting tooling. Follow the machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety protocols when setting speeds and feeds for cobalt end mills.
