The VALUE COLLECTION 723-4102 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling, slotting, and profiling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it offers increased heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling, making it well suited for harder workpiece materials and higher cutting temperatures. The 1/8 inch cutting diameter is paired with a 3/8 inch shank, a 3/8 inch length of cut, and a 3-1/16 inch overall length. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote chip evacuation and a smooth cutting action. The bright uncoated finish is standard for cobalt tooling used across general-purpose shop applications.
This end mill is a double-end design, providing two usable cutting ends and extending tool life between changes. It is centercutting, which allows direct plunge entry into a workpiece without a pre-drilled pilot hole. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry follow standard CNC and manual milling machine conventions. Typical applications include slotting, peripheral milling, and light profiling on steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials. It is sized for smaller-diameter work commonly encountered in toolroom, die, and precision machining environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for 3/8 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling machine spindles accepting a 3/8 inch shank diameter in fractional inch tooling systems.
Installation and use of this end mill is performed by machinists and CNC operators on milling machines or machining centers. Ensure the spindle and any workpiece fixtures are properly secured and the machine is at a safe stop before changing tooling. Verify collet or tool holder runout is within acceptable tolerance before cutting, as excessive runout at a 1/8 inch diameter will accelerate tool wear and reduce cut quality. Follow applicable shop safety practices and machine manufacturer guidelines for feed rate and speed selection based on workpiece material.
