The VALUE COLLECTION 723-3215 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling ferrous and abrasive materials where high-speed steel falls short. Built from M42 cobalt steel, it holds a cutting edge at elevated temperatures generated during aggressive cuts in stainless steel, alloy steel, and hardened materials. The four-flute, spiral design with a 30-degree helix angle balances chip evacuation with surface finish. The mill diameter is 0.6875 inches (11/16 inches) with a cutting length of 1.625 inches (1-5/8 inches). It is a single-end, centercutting tool, meaning it can be fed axially into a workpiece for plunge operations as well as conventional peripheral milling.
This end mill is suited for manual knee mills, CNC vertical machining centers, and CNC knee mills running fractional-inch tooling. Typical applications include shoulder milling, slotting, and profile milling in job shop, maintenance, and production environments. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry follow the standard convention for the majority of spindle setups in these environments. The uncoated bright finish makes it straightforward to resharpen on a tool and cutter grinder, extending usable life in lower-volume shops where regrinding is practical.
Designed as a standard fractional-inch shank end mill for use in any machine tool spindle, collet chuck, or end mill holder accepting a 5/8-inch straight shank, including ER collet systems, Weldon-style holders, and similar toolholding setups common on vertical mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before loading or changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended engagement depth for the holder type, and torque set screws or clamping nuts per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use, and never run a damaged tool.
