The VALUE COLLECTION 723-1612 is a double-end cobalt square end mill designed for precision milling operations in ferrous and high-temperature materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this stub-length tool features a 1/8 inch diameter cutting edge, a 3/16 inch length of cut, and a 30-degree right-hand spiral helix. The double-end configuration effectively doubles usable tool life before replacement. At 2 inches overall length with a 3/16 inch shank, it fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders common in machining centers and manual mills. Machinists and toolroom operators handling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temp alloys will find this tool suited to close-tolerance work in tight spaces.
This end mill is used in production machining, tool-and-die work, and maintenance machining environments where small-diameter milling in hard or abrasive materials is required. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. The stub length format provides added rigidity compared to standard or long-reach variants, reducing deflection during aggressive side milling or slotting passes. It is centercutting, allowing plunge cuts where needed without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
Designed as a general-purpose stub-length square end mill for use in machining centers, knee mills, and CNC milling operations involving steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. Fits any standard 3/16 inch collet or end mill holder.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard tooling setup procedures. Secure the shank fully within the collet or end mill holder to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth before tightening. Ensure the machine spindle is completely stopped and the machine is powered down before changing or inspecting tooling. Do not exceed the tool diameter-to-depth-of-cut ratios appropriate for cobalt HSS tooling in the workpiece material being machined.
