The VALUE COLLECTION 723-1604 is a double-end cobalt square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this stub-length tool offers increased rigidity over standard-length end mills, reducing deflection during aggressive cuts. It features a 1/16-inch cutting diameter, a 3/32-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation. With two right-hand spiral flutes and a bright/uncoated finish, this end mill suits machinists and tool-and-die professionals running ferrous and high-temperature alloy materials on manual or CNC milling equipment.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. The double-end configuration extends tool life by providing two usable cutting ends per tool, which is practical in production environments where small-diameter tooling sees frequent wear. The stub-length body and 3/16-inch shank diameter make it a strong fit for close-tolerance work in tight-clearance setups or small-part machining fixtures. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry, and does not require through-coolant capability for standard milling operations.
Designed for use in standard milling machine collets and CNC machining centers accepting a 3/16-inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys (ISO material codes P, M, K, and S).
Install in a collet or end mill holder sized for a 3/16-inch shank, ensuring the holder is clean and free of debris before clamping. Confirm runout is within acceptable tolerance for the cutting diameter before starting the cut, as small-diameter end mills are sensitive to spindle and holder runout. Follow machine manufacturer feed, speed, and depth-of-cut recommendations for cobalt tooling on the specific workpiece material. Always wear appropriate eye protection and ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before engaging the cutter.
