The VALUE COLLECTION 723-1407 is a single-end cobalt ball end mill designed for milling contoured surfaces, slots, and three-dimensional profiles in ferrous and hard materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers increased heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS tooling, making it well suited to harder workpiece materials and higher cutting speeds. The 5/16-inch cutting diameter, 3/4-inch length of cut, and 3/8-inch shank diameter are standard dimensions that fit a wide range of vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC routers. Two right-hand spiral flutes in a bright, uncoated finish allow efficient chip evacuation during general-purpose profiling and contouring operations.
This end mill is used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and tool rooms for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar materials where cobalt tooling outperforms standard HSS. The 2-1/2-inch overall length keeps the tool compact and rigid, reducing deflection on standard-depth cuts. It is appropriate for both CNC and manual milling setups and is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments. Its standard length designation makes it a straightforward drop-in for most conventional milling programs calling for a 5/16-inch ball profile.
Designed as a standard single-end ball end mill for use in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC routers accepting a 3/8-inch straight shank; no specific OEM machine or system compatibility was provided in the product data.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the 3/8-inch shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the machine manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, and confirm the programmed speeds and feeds are appropriate for M42 cobalt tooling in the target workpiece material.
