Product Description

The VALUE COLLECTION 723-1025 is a cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. It features a 5/16-inch cutting diameter, a 9/16-inch length of cut, and a 3/8-inch shank diameter, making it a regular-length single-end tool suited for general-purpose slot milling, profiling, and shoulder milling. The M42 cobalt material grade provides increased heat and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel, which is important when cutting harder ferrous and alloy materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers of this tooling. The bright, uncoated finish keeps the tool geometry sharp and is appropriate for dry cutting or flood coolant applications where coating buildup is not desired.

This end mill is intended for use in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines where a standard fractional-inch shank is accepted. The 5/16-inch diameter and 2-5/16-inch overall length fit toolholders and collets sized for 3/8-inch shanks. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration is the standard setup for conventional and climb milling on most production and job-shop equipment. It is well suited for general ferrous metal work including structural steel, tool steel, and stainless steel grades, as well as high-temperature alloys commonly encountered in aerospace and industrial maintenance applications.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt steel construction for improved heat resistance in ferrous and high-temp alloy cutting
  • 5/16-inch cutting diameter with a 9/16-inch length of cut for controlled depth milling
  • 2-flute geometry promotes chip evacuation in slotting and plunge applications
  • Center-cutting design allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled hole
  • 30-degree helix angle balances cutting efficiency and edge strength
  • Bright, uncoated finish compatible with dry cutting or coolant-assisted operations

Compatibility

Designed for use in toolholders and collet chucks accepting a 3/8-inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys per ISO material codes P, M, K, and S.

Installation Notes

This tool is installed by machinists in collet chucks or end mill holders on milling machines and machining centers. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and degrades surface finish.
