Product Description

The VALUE COLLECTION 723-1017 is a cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in milling operations on ferrous and high-temperature alloy workpieces. Built to M42 cobalt steel grade, it offers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel tooling. The 1/4 inch mill diameter pairs with a 1/2 inch length of cut, making it well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in tighter work envelopes. With a 30-degree helix angle and two right-hand spiral flutes, the tool promotes efficient chip evacuation while maintaining cutting edge stability. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this end mill in production and job-shop environments.

This end mill is intended for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. The 2-flute geometry provides adequate chip clearance when working in softer steels or when plunging is required, as the tool is centercutting. The 3/8 inch shank diameter fits standard ER collet chucks, side-lock holders, and shrink-fit toolholders commonly found on vertical machining centers and manual knee mills. The regular length designation keeps overhang minimal and improves rigidity during cuts.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt construction for elevated heat resistance and tool life on ferrous and high-temp alloy materials
  • 1/4 inch mill diameter with 1/2 inch length of cut for precise slotting and profiling
  • 2-flute right-hand spiral design promotes chip evacuation and allows centercutting plunge capability
  • 30-degree helix angle balances cutting force and surface finish across a range of workpiece materials
  • Bright/uncoated finish — compatible with cutting fluids and suitable for re-coating if required
  • Single-end configuration with 3/8 inch shank diameter for broad toolholder compatibility

Compatibility

Designed as a standard fractional-inch single-end square end mill for use in ER collet chucks, side-lock holders, and shrink-fit toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch shank. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys as defined by ISO material codes P, M, K, and S.

Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before loading or changing tooling. Set tool runout within acceptable tolerances using a dial indicator before beginning a cut. Do not exceed the rated length of cut when programming axial depth of cut, as engaging flutes beyond the cutting length can damage the tool and workpiece.
