The VALUE COLLECTION 7-N-31C is a 5/16-18 UNC hex lock nut with a nylon insert locking mechanism, manufactured from brass with a bright, uncoated finish. The nylon insert compresses against mating threads to resist loosening caused by vibration and torque. At 11/32 inches high with a 1/2 inch width across flats, this nut conforms to standard inch-series fastener dimensions. It is suited for plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and general mechanical assemblies where a non-permanent locking fastener is required and brass construction is preferred for corrosion resistance or conductivity considerations.
This hex lock nut is used in residential and light commercial applications where vibration-resistant fastening is needed without thread-locking compounds. Typical install scenarios include securing fittings, brackets, and equipment panels in HVAC systems, plumbing rough-in work, and electrical enclosure assembly. The right-hand thread direction is standard for the vast majority of fastener applications. Brass construction makes it a practical choice in environments where steel fasteners may corrode or where galvanic compatibility with brass or copper components is a factor.
Designed for use with 5/16-18 UNC right-hand threaded fasteners and mating hardware in standard inch-series assemblies.
Install with a standard 1/2 inch combination wrench or socket. Nylon insert lock nuts are intended for single-use applications — the locking torque degrades if the nut is removed and reinstalled. Do not use an impact driver at full torque, as this can shear or deform the nylon insert. Ensure mating threads are clean and free of debris before installation.
