The VALUE COLLECTION 586-120S160BC is a Schedule 160 black steel pipe nipple used to connect threaded pipe fittings in high-pressure plumbing, industrial, and mechanical piping systems. Measuring 1-1/4 inches in diameter and 12 inches in length, this nipple is manufactured to heavy-wall Schedule 160 specifications, giving it significantly greater wall thickness and pressure tolerance than standard Schedule 40 or 80 pipe. The black finish is applied during manufacturing and is standard for non-galvanized ferrous pipe used in gas, steam, and industrial fluid applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this type of nipple.
This nipple is suited for residential and commercial gas distribution lines, steam systems, compressed air piping, and industrial process lines where elevated pressure ratings are required. Schedule 160 wall thickness makes it a preferred choice in applications where system pressure exceeds the capacity of Schedule 80. It is installed wherever a short, rigid threaded connection is needed between fittings, valves, unions, or pipe sections. The 12-inch length accommodates moderate span requirements without requiring a field-cut nipple.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for Schedule 160 threaded steel piping systems using 1-1/4 inch nominal pipe size fittings and valves with standard NPT thread form.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local mechanical and plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the system fully before removing or installing any threaded pipe component. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, and tighten to fitting manufacturer specifications using a pipe wrench. Do not over-torque threaded connections, as this can crack fittings or damage threads.
